Part 0

The role: the AI Product Builder

1 min read

What it is

The AI Product Builder owns the complete loop: from the idea, to scoping, to the spec, to the build (executed by AI), to verification, to deployment, to tests and QA, to telling the world it shipped. That used to be four jobs: a PM who specs, developers who code, QA who tests, ops who deploys. One person can now hold all of it, because AI gives them the lever to execute what they could not have coded alone.

The builder owns the whole loop. Terracotta for what gets decided, petrol for what gets proven.

The shift

You don't need to be a career developer. You need three things.

  1. Understand the concepts (that's what this book is for), so you speak the language, make good calls, and notice when something is off.
  2. Orchestrate the AI: frame it, give it context, break the work down, read what it produces.
  3. Hold the quality line: the product decisions and the trade-offs stay yours, verification is non-negotiable, you are the safety rail.

One sentence to remember: the decisions are yours, the execution is delegated, the verification is mandatory.

What the role reintegrates

Scoping (turn a fuzzy want into a clear, sliced, prioritized scope). Spec (write the design doc that fixes the goal, the context, the decisions, the data model, the slices, the tests). Build (have AI execute from framed prompts). Verification (re-read, build, test in a real browser, validate each step). Deployment (put it live, and know what each move triggers). Tests and QA (run checklists, validate end-to-end journeys, handle edge cases). Communication (present the release: what shipped, why, a demo, what's next).

You are not smaller than a team. You are the conductor of one.
